About gum diseases

DISEASE OF TISSUE SURROUNDING THE TOOTH – PERIODONTITIS

This means infection of tissues surrounding the root, which if neglected may lead to loss of tooth and bone.

Symptoms:  painful, reddish, possibly darkened gums may be an indication, but bad breath, receding gums, and loose teeth are also signs of periodontitis.

Please note this! Droplets infections (respiratory secretions) may be passed to family members as well! Over time, periodontitis may cause type II. diabetes, heart and circulatory disease.

INFECTION OF THE GUMS – GINGIVITIS

Tartar builds up around the neck of a tooth, and bacteria growing in the tartar cause gingivitis. Neglect and/or genetic tendency this may develop into an infection of the bed of the tooth itself (periodontitis).

Symptoms: Bleeding of gums while brushing/flossing and sensitive, reddish gums.

Treatment:

  1. Prevention-Avoidance: with the help of a dental hygienist, the individual patient learns and maintains his or her own oral hygiene system.
  2. Treatment after the disease has begun: removal of plaque, polishing, and air-brushing.

CAUSES OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE DEVELOPMENT

The causes include poor oral hygiene, tartar, smoking, hormonal disorders, improper immune system function, diabetes, and calcium channel blocker blood pressure medications.

The disease often starts insidiously and is not noticeable.

The course of inflammation varies from person to person because our genetics are different, and thus our immune systems respond differently.

Periodontal disease can be transmitted through saliva and is hereditary!

TREATMENT OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE

The treatment of periodontal disease consists of several steps that build on each other. The time intervals between these steps vary from person to person, partly determined by the patient’s ability to cooperate and the healing expectations set during treatment.

The effectiveness of the treatment is greatly influenced by the understanding and application of the aftercare instructions provided by the periodontist and the dental hygienist, as well as the regular execution of these instructions at home.

This is somewhat similar to language learning or to a person recovering from an accident; if they do not perform the rehabilitation exercises, their limb will not recover properly.

After the treatments, we provide written information about aftercare and the tasks to be completed at home!

TREATMENT PROCESS OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE

The treatment is divided into three phases:

I. Causal Therapy: Elimination of Inflammation

This phase includes:

  • Consultation
  • Tartar removal
  • Collection of periodontal diagnostic values
  • Discussion of X-ray images
  • Oral hygiene counseling
  • Closed curettage
  • Follow-up examination

II. Regenerative Phase

We can transition to this phase when the inflammation is below 20% and plaque control for the entire mouth is also below 20%.

This phase includes:

  • Tooth-preserving, regenerative interventions using various surgical techniques
  • Close monitoring of the patient
  • Necessary aesthetic interventions for the gums
  • Regular follow-up examinations

III. Aftercare

Depending on individual assessment, follow-ups may occur every 3, 4, or 6 months, including:

  • Tartar removal
  • Recording periodontal values every 6 months

Attention! Periodontal disease is treatable, but long-term, sustainable results can only be maintained through regular, well-executed tooth brushing and necessary semi-annual follow-up examinations!

GUM PLASTIC SURGERY AND TREATMENT OF GUM RECESSION

Gum recession is an increasingly common problem among individuals with periodontal disease, leading to aesthetic concerns as well as increased tooth sensitivity and cervical pain. In cases of gum recession, the first step is always to address the periodontal disease, followed by gum shaping through plastic surgery.

After the specialized laser gum plastic surgery, new, healthy gum tissue replaces the dead tissue, allowing the worn tooth neck to regain its natural protection. Within just a few weeks, your teeth will be healthy both aesthetically and functionally!

Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Treatment

No. In the majority of cases, patients report absolutely no pain.

The exact price can only be stated once a complete diagnosis has been carried out. Every case is different, which is why we offer treatments designed for each individual patient, for the best results.

Following a laser operation, healing is better and faster,  and pain is negligible or nonexistent. In addition, even the first treatment.

This depends on how advanced the gum inflammation (gingivitis) or soft tissue disease (periodontitis) is. The first thing we do is determine the extent of damage to the affected areas.  It is necessary to fit the treatment to the individual patient.  In most cases, we apply professional laser treatment, which is not painful at all.

The most common symptoms are bleeding or swollen gums, loose or wobbly teeth, and also unpleasant smelling breath is an indicator of dental soft tissue diseaseel.

This depends entirely on the given situation. Often it can be months before we can say the patient is completely healed. After a treatment/operation one must follow strict oral hygiene procedures.

The longer you wait to see a specialist, the less chance you have of saving your teeth. Protecting and saving your own teeth is much more economical than replacements.

Yes. We offer a 100% guarantee on both our treatments and the materials used! The conditions for the valid guarantee are:

  • Follow the prescribed oral hygiene advice.
  • Annual checkup, and for periodontal patients at time intervals recommended by the doctor!
  • Proper wear and use!
